The world’s largest Fixathon is back
4-5 December 2026, Norrsken House Stockholm

Hundreds of problem solvers. One mission: to prompt what matters.

Get ready for the Stockholm edition of the world’s largest Fixathon, Norrsken’s global AI hackathon for tackling our biggest problems. Because we believe the greatest rewards come from solving the greatest challenges: our climate, our health, our society, our shared future.

This is a call to all problem engineers: put your skills to work on what truly matters. This year’s challenges focus on energy, AI safety, and physical AI. Read the descriptions below and choose your preferred challenge in the application form.

Apply solo or as a team. Teams have 3-4 people, so if you apply alone or as a team of two, we’ll match you with other participants. Everyone submits their own application.

Have questions? Our FAQ is at the bottom of the page.

Seats are limited. Energy is not. Let’s prompt what matters.

The Challenges

01 Energy

In collaboration with Tech Forward, SeaPattern & ABB

The transition to a more sustainable future requires us to rethink how we produce, use and manage energy and resources. Today, vast energy potential remains untapped, while industries face growing pressure to reduce emissions, waste and resource consumption. AI offers new opportunities to overcome barriers, rethink traditional approaches and develop smarter, more sustainable solutions.

Can AI help us unlock this potential and accelerate the transition to a cleaner, smarter and more sustainable future?

02 Physical AI

In collaboration with NVIDIA

We all know what AI has done for software. But some of the most exciting innovations are now happening beyond the screen. A new generation of founders and innovators is using AI to design, simulate and prototype solutions for the physical world. From making everyday life safer and easier to protecting the planet, Physical AI opens up new possibilities to tackle real-world challenges.

Can we harness Physical AI to rethink what’s possible and build a safer, healthier and more sustainable future?

03 AI Safety

In collaboration with The Verifiable Compute Foundation

As AI becomes more powerful, autonomous and deeply integrated into society, ensuring its safety is more important than ever. From preventing misuse and emerging risks to building trust, transparency and accountability, new challenges are arising faster than we can solve them. AI offers enormous opportunities, but how do we ensure that progress doesn’t come at the cost of safety?

Can we develop new technologies, tools and approaches that make AI safer, more trustworthy and aligned with human values?

Fixathon FAQs

What Is a Fixathon & How Does It Work?

A Fixathon is like a hackathon, but focused on solving real-world problems that desperately need fixing. We team up with top researchers, companies, and experts to turn these problems into clear challenges. In 24 hours, teams go from idea to applicable solution or working prototype, using AI and open tools.

This December, we're bringing the world's largest Fixathon back! Norrsken's global AI hackathon first took place in December 2025, when more than 400 builders came together across Stockholm, Kigali, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and San Francisco. See last year's solutions here: www.norrsken.org/promptwhatmatters

You can apply on this page for this year's Stockholm edition, which takes place on December 4-5, 2026. Please only apply if you can attend the entire event in person.

What Does the 24-Hour Sprint Look Like?

You'll have 24 hours to work with your team on a solution. You can work through the night at Norrsken House Stockholm, if you want to, but we recommend going home to sleep for a bit and then coming back.

That being said, it's up to you and your team how you approach it. We have some couches in the house, but we won't provide anything else if you want to stay over.

How Do the Challenges Work?

The challenges will center around energy, AI safety, and physical AI. You can already read a short introduction to each in the descriptions above. The full challenge briefs, sub-tracks, and data sources will be announced closer to the event.

You can choose your preferred challenge in the application form, and we'll also use it for team matching. You can still change your challenge after teams are matched, as long as your whole team agrees, but we'd like to avoid this if possible, as we can only host a limited number of teams per challenge.

Who Can Apply?

Anyone passionate about solving meaningful problems is welcome to apply (as long as you are 18+ years old).

You can apply individually or together as a group. Please note that everyone must send in their own application, even if applying as a team. If you apply alone or as a team of two, we will match you with additional participants to complete your team. Teams will consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 people.

Do I Need Coding Skills?

No, you don't need coding skills or previous hackathon experience. Your team will need to submit a prototype, though, so make sure at least one person on your team has technical skills or knows how to vibe code. If you apply alone, we'll match you with participants who have complementary skills.

What Makes a Great Team & Team Matching?

The best teams combine different skills and perspectives. Diversity in backgrounds, thinking, and experience helps unlock stronger ideas and more impactful solutions.

We carefully review all applications and primarily match teams based on complementary skills, ensuring that every team has a strong mix of people and perspectives. Team matching happens once we've confirmed all participants for the event.

When Will I Hear Back & What Happens Next?

Our team will review applications carefully, and everyone who has secured a spot will receive an email. You'll be asked to confirm your spot by replying, so we know you're still joining.

We're aiming to confirm all spots by Friday, November 20, at the latest. If you haven't heard from us by then, you're on our waitlist, and we'll keep letting in participants from it if anyone drops out, up until the day of the event.

Once everyone is confirmed, we'll match teams and let you know your team ahead of the event, so you have time to connect.

If you can no longer join, please update your details or reply to any email from us as soon as possible, since we're matching teams and working with a waitlist.
