Mike Duff
Speaker

Mike is a regenerative urban & rural systems designer for Dark Matter Labs, and co-directs a degrowth & permaculture retreat centre / Living Lab near Girona, linked to the Research & Degrowth academic association: La Bruguera de Púbol. An ex-local councillor, he is deeply involved in Girona City Council's post-growth eco-social transition work which started recently. Mike works on post-growth urban policy with cities around Europe, as well as directly in the soil in Catalonia through a large scale, biodiverse, regenerative Agroforestry project, which he co-directs; Agroforestaria La Bruguera.

Sonia Blough

Sonia is a Swiss–American researcher and writer who has spent the past 10 years investigating food systems from diverse perspectives. With an academic background in anthropology and critical media studies, Sonia has always been interested in storytelling for change and how language and symbols construct our reality. She currently works as the Head of Research at Naked Innovations, supporting innovation for sustainability in food systems. She sees degrowth as a critical component of the future of food, and has been exploring the intersections between the degrowth and regenerative agriculture movements.

Daragh Cogley

Daragh is an economics and sustainability professor at EADA Business School, an EU bioeconomy youth ambassador, a co-founder of the ‘One day at a Time’ sustainability calendar and an account manager at BCome, the fashion sustainability platform based in Barcelona. He promotes degrowth philosophy in his work and personal activism.

Álvaro Álvarez
Moderator

Spanish-Argentinian journalist and documentary filmmaker with over 15 years of experience creating a wide range of content, from short digital videos to international documentaries. Born in Argentina and raised in Spain, Alvaro joined the BBC World Service in London in 2011 after working for the Spanish newspaper El País in Spain. Throughout his career, he has covered a variety of issues, travelling to countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Peru, China, and Egypt. In his latest documentary for the BBC, focused on "degrowth economics," he delves into the movement in Barcelona, examining both the academic aspects and the real-world efforts of those implementing degrowth principles in their daily lives. His experience with this documentary has fueled his interest in covering more stories related to climate justice and the wellbeing economy.
